Changing the Timing Belt
The A8 timing belt should be changed every 90,000 miles or five years. When changing the timing belt, there are other components that need to be changed. Other repairs should be considered at the same time including changing the oil cooler plastic pipes and o-rings. The procedure for changing the timing belt can be found here.
The following outlines what parts should be considered for replacement during the timing belt change. It is high recommended that the oil cooler o-rings and plastic pipe be replaced during this procedure.You can find the oil cooler procedure here.
Where to get the Parts
The parts can be purchased through your local dealer, but expect to pay over $900.00 for them at list price. There are aftermarket suppliers that you can purchase them from. Wendy Hager sells a lot of parts on ebay and can supply all the part below. To contact her, email her at snolvr8@msn.com. The cost for all the parts from Wendy is about $498.00. Most of them, if not all are OEM parts. The parts prices below are from Wendy Hager, quoted 12/03. This page was updated 12/9/03, the parts are now $134.75 more than originally quoted prices due to a price increase. The TB damper is now a dealer only item, once it is available aftermarket again, the price will go back down. It went from $86 to $153!
